Major Milestone: Over 10 Million Kilograms of Food Saved
We’re proud to announce that, entering 2025, Yume passed over 10 million kilograms of surplus food has been rescued through our award-winning platform.
That’s all food that may otherwise have gone to waste but instead has been sold or donated to businesses and charities that can use it. Australia has a food waste epidemic. But thanks to the leadership of some of the country’s biggest food manufacturers and service providers, that’s starting to change.
This milestone is only possible because of the visionary partners who believed in a new way forward. From day one, companies like Unilever, Mars Food, and General Mills helped co-design and pilot Yume’s technology: a solution purpose-built to unlock value from surplus food while driving environmental and social outcomes at scale.
“What excites me most is being part of the solution,” says Rose Gooding from Goodman Fielder. And that solution is now being embraced by leaders across the industry. Today, manufacturers like Simplot, Kellanova, and Goodman Fielder have joined our pilot partners in using Yume to reduce waste and generate real ROI.
But it’s not just about sales. Yume also helps partners increase their donations, with 29% of offers rerouted to secondary charities when the first choice can’t be accepted. Over 1.5 million meals have been donated to food relief organisations like SecondBite and Foodbank, creating tangible community impact.
“You help end food waste and you make us a better business,” says Adrian Lorenzin from Sodexo, one of the many food service leaders using Yume to source quality surplus products. Organisations like Sodexo and Accor Hotels play a vital role in helping Australia reach its 2030 target of halving food waste, using Yume to embed sustainability into their procurement practices.
For Andrew Borg at Mars Food, it’s about people. “What excites me most is getting food into the hands of people that need it across our community.” For Phoebe Dowling at Simplot, Yume has been “an enabler and a connector”, helping the business act on sustainability while still delivering commercial outcomes.
“Behind the 10 million kilograms are businesses saving money, helping their communities, and doing good by the environment.””
Alongside 10 million kilos are 2.32 billion litres of embedded water and 41 million kilograms of CO₂ emissions avoided. Driving all of those achievements are the people and businesses that made it happen.
In 2025, Yume is scaling this impact even further. We’re partnering with leading restaurants, hotels, and pub groups to ensure hospitality businesses can purchase high-quality surplus food and become part of the solution too.
We’re only just getting started. With major feature releases ahead and more partners coming on board, we’re calling on the food industry to join us. Together, we can make food waste a thing of the past and prove that doing good is good for business.
